IMA Blood Bank

IMA Cochin Blood Bank started in 1984 as the first private blood bank. It was the brainchild of a few doctors who realized the importance of increasing the availability of blood products for emergency management. Along with the opening of the IMA COCHIN Blood Bank, they also started the novel concept of voluntary blood donation to increase the availability of blood donors.
After that, it was constant growth with multiple upgrades as time passed. Similar major landmark events were the introduction of the blood component separation unit in 1992, starting of the Immuno-Hematology and Western Blot Test Lab in 1993. In 1997, hemophilia care and coagulation studies were started, followed by the inauguration of Haemophersis Center in 1998.

In 2000, IMA Cochin blood bank shifted to its new premises and by 2012 the nucleic acid testing for all blood products issued was introduced. Currently the IMA Cochin blood is undergoing a complete a facelift and in the process of introducing the latest machines for providing the best quality blood products.
